Über Andrea
Andrea (Italy, b. 1982) has received a jazz and classical music education. He’s a graduate from the Amsterdam Conservatoire, where he majored in jazz piano and completed an electronic music program in 2010.
Andrea was one of the six semi-finalists of the Europe famous YPF 2009 contest, after being selected among dozens of young musicians; on that occasion he had the chance to perform at the Bimhuis of Amsterdam.
He has been teaching piano for 15 years now, both in the public and private sector. Beside his acoustic music practice, he works in the field of electronic and electro-acoustic music, both as a composer and a live performer.
As a jazz pianist, he is featured on a CD distributed by Challenge Records (YPF – live at Bimhuis).
As an electronic music producer, he’s featured in numerous releases and has performed in Europe, the US, Canada, Brazil, Russia, Mexico, Japan and South Korea.
Please note! My preferred languages for teaching are English and Italian. I am also able to switch to French & German, although I don't speak them as good.

Since early 2020 I have been teaching online lessons with pupils of all ages and levels. Do online piano lessons actually work?? Yes they do! And the advantages are many (see video at the bottom of this page to get a better idea) :
a) we are both in our comfort zone and playing on our own instruments (unlike most music school settings or private accommodations, where teacher and student have to share one instrument)
b) travel and pick up time won't be an issue anymore, which is extremely convenient especially for parents
c) with an array of 5 high-definition webcams (720p &1080p), I am able to show close-ups of fingers/arms/posture in great detail
d) you can decide to record any lesson and watch it back at a more convenient time or use it as a reminder for practicing
e) my teaching platform allows me to screen-share music score directly from my laptop, fire up a digital whiteboard for note writing and reading, share a youtube video or a google drive folder
**Do online classes work for the young as well? Yes, absolutely! I have had a number of kids younger than 10yo, who enjoyed the lessons very much. Nowaday's children and kids are more comfortable with screens, devices, tablets than people from previous generations.
**What are the requirements for an online lesson? All you need is a tablet/laptop running an updated version of firefox or chrome browser and a stable internet connection. Your webcam should show your hands & face. Headphones are preferred but not essential.
**At what time can lessons be arranged? I give my availability between 10:00—18:00 Berlin time (CET), Monday through Friday.
I specialize in jazz & improvisation, although I hava a background in classical music too. Some students come from an electronic music production background and want to learn more about harmony and music theory, some want to learn to accompany themselves while they sing, some want to learn to read music from the score, some wanna learn some easy classical music pieces, some how to improvise on the piano...I have been dealing with all sorts of requests in the past years :-)
**What is my setup like? (Watch the video below for clarity)

As mentioned, I have 5 high-resolution webcams running simultaneously: left angle, right angle, above keyboard, face camera and pedals. I am able to switch angle on a whim or upon request of the student—yes, this is actually a tool you can also use.
—audio—
I am recording my audio (piano & voice) with a proper omnidirectional microphone. I am listening to the student's playing with a pair of Beyerdynamic DT880 headphones, which allow me to give very accurate feedback.
—instrument—
I am teaching on my Hoffman upright piano (no keyboards or electric piano).
—setting—
I am in my home studio in Berlin, where I have plenty of scores and music materials right at hand.
—internet—
I run my laptop on a high-speed WLAN, connected to the router with an ethernet cable for best performance (no wifi).
