Über Hovhannes
Armenian bass-baritone Hovhannes Karapetyan began his musical journey at the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan, where he showcased his talent in productions such as the title role of Don Pasquale and Leporello in Don Giovanni. Additionally, he participated in several concerts during his time there. Seeking further development, he pursued advanced training at the Royal Academy of Music in London. In 2022, his performances at the Academy included Argenio in Handel’s Imeneo, Interrogator 1 in the world premiere of Freya Waley-Cohen’s opera WITCH, and Father Trulove in The Rake’s Progress. His repertoire also includes singing in Bach’s Coffee Cantata, Mozart’s Requiem, and Mass in C minor.
Hovhannes has expanded his performance experience through concert engagements across Europe, including Italy, Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Georgia, and Russia. He has received several accolades, winning the special prize at the Tatevik Sazandaryan Voice Competition, second prize at the Nodar Andguladze Competition in Tbilisi, first prize at the Lusine Zakaryan Competition,Pavarotti prize in London and special prize at the Cascais opera competition in Portugal.
In the summer of 2023, Hovhannes was a member of the Young Singers Project (YSP) at the Salzburg Festival. During the 2023-2024 season, he further honed his craft as an emerging artist at the “Mascarade” opera studio in Florence, Italy. Looking ahead to the 2024-2025 season, Hovhannes will join the ensemble at the Wiesbaden State Theatre.
