• Wie kommt es, dass Du diese Sprache fließend sprichst? Hängt dies mit Deiner Herkunft zusammen oder hat einst ein/e Lehrer/in die Leidenschaft dafür in Dir geweckt?

  I am a native speaker. I was born in Cuba, and moved to Spain at the age of 10, so Spanish is my first language. Furthermore, I've always liked reading and learning, and I think understanding the basis of a language, even when you are native to it, is very important since the way we talk about things says a lot about how we see reality, both as a society and individually.

• Nenne uns eine Persönlichkeit, egal ob lebend, historisch oder fiktiv, die für Dich diese Kultur am besten repräsentiert!

  Trying to explain the Spanish culture without mentioning Picasso, Goya, Unamuno, Almodovar, Gaudí, Sagasta, or Ortega y Gasset, among others, would almost make no sense. Nevertheless, if I had to pick one it would have to be Don Quijote, of course, as it's not only a beloved character in Spain, but also an iconic figure similar to Hamlet for England, or Faust for Germany.

• Gibt es in der Sprache, die Du unterrichtest, ein Wort, einen Ausdruck, eine Tradition oder eine typische Verhaltensweise, die Dich ganz besonders beeindruckt oder amüsiert?

  I find very pretty certain words in Spanish that describe certain natural happenings, for example, "arrebol", which refers, usually in poetry, to the red color, specially the one that that resembles the tint of the clouds during a sunset, or "petricor", which is the scent of rain on dry earth (although I believe it also exist in other langueages, like English)

• Warum ist es Deiner Meinung nach so wichtig, diese Sprache zu beherrschen (sei es in Bezug auf Schule / Studium, Beruf oder aus persönlichen Gründen)?

  Well, for start, it is an official or national language in over 20 countries and the number of native Spanish speakers worldwide is a whopping 475 million, which of course imply that you will get more job possibilities, but also because there's a lot of really amazing literature and movies, and will give you certain understanding (without much effort) of other languages that are similar, such as French, Italian or Portuguese.

• Worin liegt die besondere Schwierigkeit, wenn es darum geht, diese Sprache zu lernen bzw. warum lohnt es sich ganz besonders?

  It's actually not so difficult, but it's very based on quite strict rules. The good thing is that once you learn those rules properly, improvement happens very quickly just by inference.

• Gibt es im Zusammenhang mit dieser Sprache eine Anekdote aus Deinem Berufsleben oder Deiner Schulzeit, von der Du uns erzählen möchtest?

  Well, because there are many Spanish-speaking countries worldwide, there many different dialects, and you need to teach the student all these different ways of speaking, because something that may be a mistake in Spain, for example, could be actually correct in Argentina or Mexico, and that's always very amusing.

• Hilf uns, Dich ein wenig besser kennenzulernen, und erzähle uns ein wenig mehr über Deine bisherigen Reisen und/oder Auslandsaufenthalte (in Bezug auf die unterrichtete Sprache oder generell).

  I've travelled to countries such as Mexico, Venezuela, Portugal, Cuba, Greece, Italy, England, France or Morocco to work as a Spanish teacher in various projects, including workshops at holiday venues for adults and young people, literacy campaigns in developing Spanish speaking countries, accent improvement for singers, actors and public speakers, translator or state schools support teacher.
