Über Frances
I am an Artist from Ireland. I have a bachelor's and master's degree in art. My specialisations are painting, print and video although I have a broad knowledge of other mediums. I live in Essen and have an artist studio in Duisburg, NRW so classes can be around either city. My education: 2020-2022 MA Art Research Collaboration, Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology. Ireland. 2017-2020 BA (Hons) Art, Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology. Ireland. 2014-2016 Jewellery and Metalwork Design, National College of Art and Design. Ireland. Recent exhibitions and awards include: Ireland in Germany 2024, Culture Ireland (2024); No end to the Road Fellow, Kulturforum Witten (2023); The Agility Award, Arts Council of Ireland (2023); Internationales Digitale Kunst Festival, Kultur im Bunker, Stuttgart, DE (2023); Wax Rhapsodic, The LAB Gallery, Dublin, (2022); Periodical Review 11, Pallas Projects/Studios, (2022); Luan Gallery Art Fair, Luan Gallery, Westmeath; No End to the Road, Fellowship, Witten, Germany (2023-2024); RDS Visual Art Awards, shortlist, (2022); Longford Platform 31 Award, shortlist, (2022); Roscommon Individual Artist Bursary, Roscommon, (2022). I like to make a plan and stick to it so that the portfolio process is stress-free for the student. I love teaching because I like to help and encourage people with an interest in art. I simplify the process of making art for the student.

My lessons teach formal drawing, print and painting techniques in an engaging, easy to digest manner. I help students improve their skills of making artworks through teaching how to break down visual elements of composition, form, colour theory and tone. I teach students a formula of seeing images, breaking them down and representing this through a variety of line and mark making. Once my students understand these fundamentals they will feel confident to apply these methods to any artistic discipline they wish, with confidence in the foundations. If the student is preparing for art college I will tutor them through the process of making a portfolio and getting into art college starting with a blueprint and working our way through concept, skill and presentation elements in a stress-free manner.
