Über Rafaela
Rafaela Carvalho – Oboe
Portuguese oboist Rafaela Carvalho is a Berlin-based freelance musician whose artistic focus lies in orchestral and chamber music performance. Passionate about orchestral playing from an early age, she has built an international career characterized by versatility, curiosity, and a strong commitment to musical excellence.
Rafaela completed her Bachelor of Music at the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin under the guidance of Gregor Witt, after previously studying at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo in Porto and participating in the Erasmus programme at the Universität der Künste Berlin.
As an orchestral musician, she has collaborated with numerous ensembles in Germany and Portugal, including the Staatskapelle Berlin Orchestra Academy, Magdeburgische Philharmonie, Preußens Hofmusik at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Preußisches Kammerorchester, Symphonia Berlin, Europe Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, Orquestra Filarmónica Portuguesa and Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa, among others. Since 2024, she has also performed with the Bläserquintett der Staatskapelle Berlin.
Alongside her orchestral work, Rafaela maintains an active chamber music career. Since 2020, she has appeared regularly at the Pierre Boulez Saal with various ensembles. In 2022, she shared the stage with renowned flutist Emmanuel Pahud in a wind quintet performance. Further highlights include participation in the Musethica Project (2023), the Remix Ensemble Summer Academy (2023), performances with the Remix Ensemble under the direction of Peter Rundel (2024), and membership in both the Lucerne Festival Academy (2024) and the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra (2025). In 2025, she also joined the Grafenegg Festival Academy and became a scholarship holder of Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Berlin e.V.
Prizewinner of several chamber music competitions in Portugal, Rafaela combines artistic sensitivity with a strong collaborative spirit and continues to pursue opportunities that foster growth, innovation, and meaningful musical exchange.
