Über Caroline
Hi! My name is Caroline. I've been dancing my whole life and hold a BFA in contemporary dance. My training has consisted of majority classical ballet, with my recent degree being in contemporary techniques and choreography. I have had the opportunity to perform principal roles in ballets such as the Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, and Giselle. I've also performed contemporary works by artists like Robert Battle, Shen Wei, Merce Cunningham, and Sidra Bell. In addition, I've choreographed and performed for Resolution Festival in London and Ocracoke Festival in America.
I have been teaching for 7 years in America and Nicaragua and have enjoyed it thoroughly. I've taught all ages, levels, in person and on zoom. I'm always looking to connect with passionate students to share what I know about this art form that has changed my life and to learn from them as well. I tailor each lesson to the individual student's needs. I am qualified to teach classical ballet and contemporary techniques and welcome all levels of experience.
My intermediate/advanced ballet class begins with a customized warm up and strengthening routine unique to each student. This is followed by a basic barre and center that centers their focus on the basics of ballet while balancing this focus with allowing freedom and joy some room to flow through their mind and body.
My contemporary class is again, easily adjusted to each student's level. It begins with short meditation, followed by simple movements to practice bringing awareness to how the body feels that day. Maintaining this mental focus and physical technique, we build upon the building blocks to travel more in space, seeing and challenging the unconscious limitations we all have.
I believe dance is a metaphor for reality and it's a wonderful way to practice connecting our being as a whole as we navigate the world in these bodies. Throughout my years of teaching, I always aim to help students trust themselves, challenge themselves, and simply find joy in the process.
