Über Matias
I am a 22-year-old Spanish student currently working at a EU institution in Luxembourg, mainly on issues related to diplomacy, economics, and law. I am naturally curious and have a strong interest in philosophy (Ortega y Gasset, Julián Marías, Gilles Lipovetsky...), psychology (Erich Fromm...), literature (Joseph Conrad, Henry James, Javier Marías, Stefan Zweig, Dostoevsky, Sándor Márai...), as well as football — particularly Real Madrid.
I have a strong vocation for teaching. I see language lessons as a vehicle through which almost anything can be learned: culture, literature, history, psychology, current affairs or simply the subjects that genuinely interest us.
In my experience, one of the best ways to learn a language is to use it to talk about the things we are passionate and curious about.

My lessons are taught mainly in Spanish, with English (C2 Cambridge) as a supporting language whenever necessary. I do not speak German, so from the beginning I encourage students to communicate in a foreign language instead of immediately falling back on their mother tongue. I see this as part of the learning process itself: Spanish remains the main language, while English can be used to clarify grammar, vocabulary or more complex ideas.
My teaching method is based on adapting each lesson to the student’s interests, personality and goals. I prefer using literature, journalism, philosophy, culture, music, current affairs or other topics that are genuinely engaging, rather than relying too heavily on artificial exercises. Grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation are then introduced naturally through these materials and conversations. I believe languages are learned much more effectively when we use them to discuss things we actually care about.
I teach students from beginner to advanced level, although some previous knowledge of Spanish is usually a plus. Lessons can focus on conversation, grammar, fluency, pronunciation, exam preparation or preparation for studying, travelling or working in Spain.
I prefer teaching in person in central Trier, but I am also available for online lessons. My main availability is on Saturdays and Sundays from late September until March.
